Te Tumu Waiora - heading towards wellness - is a model of primary mental health care aiming to provide anyone experiencing mental distress or addiction challenges with increased access to convenient, high quality and person-centred care and support at their general practice.

Pegasus Health is seeking a dedicated and experienced Service Manager – Primary Mental Health to lead the development and delivery of innovative, equitable, and high-quality mental health services across Canterbury.

As our Service Manager – Primary Mental Health, you will:

  • Lead a diverse team of clinical and operational leaders, supporting approximately 65 staff and contractors.
  • Provide strategic, professional, and thought leadership across all mental health programmes.
  • Drive innovation, workforce development, and continuous improvement, ensuring the service is equipped to respond to the changing healthcare landscape in which it functions.
  • Build strong partnerships across the health sector, tertiary institutions, and community organisations.Ensure services align with the strategic direction of Pegasus Health and Health NZ. 

Key Responsibilities 

 

  • Develop and implement strategic plans that enhance mental health outcomes and equity.
  • Provide leadership across all programmes.
  • Lead service design and development with a focus on best practice and patient-centred care.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Oversee financial management, risk mitigation, and quality assurance.
  • Champion new ways of thinking, co-design, and continuous improvement.
  • Promote workforce development and support staff to work at the top of their scope.

Mōu| About you

Essential:

  • Significant experience in the mental health field.
  • Clinical or health tertiary qualification.
  • Expertise in change leadership and financial management.
  • Proven experience in senior operational management and effective team leadership.
