Lead Nurse Practitioner


Ko tāu ake mahi | What you will be doing

This is a leadership role at the heart of our 24‑Hour Surgery. As Lead Nurse Practitioner (NP) you will provide advanced clinical care within your NP scope, lead and mentor our NP team, and grow extended nursing pathways so patients and whānau receive safe, timely, people‑centered care.

At 0.8 FTE (32 hours per week), this role blends leadership and clinical practice. You will participate in the 24‑Hour Surgery roster, which covers evenings, weekends,andpublic holidays, while also having dedicated non‑clinical time to grow, mentor, and support our NP team.

You will:

  • Assess, diagnose, prescribe, and evaluate care plans, requesting and interpreting diagnostics as required.
  • Work inter‑professionally with medical, nursing and allied colleagues to plan, treat and follow‑up care, supporting patient self‑management and quality of life.
  • Lead the NP team, provide clinical/professional leadership and supervision (including NP interns), and contribute to strategic planning and service development.
  • Champion culturally safe practice grounded in Te Tīrīti o Waitangi, actively addressing inequities for Māori, Pacific and CALD communities.
  • Contribute to quality improvement, audit, Health & Safety compliance and risk management across the service.
  • Participate in the NP roster, balancing clinical and non‑clinical time (education, supervision and pathway development).

Ko ngā pūkenga ōu | What you will bring

Essential
  • Registered as a Nurse Practitioner with the Nursing Council of New Zealand, with a current Annual Practising Certificate.
  • NZRC CORE Advanced certificate.
  • NZ residency/work visa.
  • Confident user of IT systems (Indici experience an advantage).
  • 4+ years’ recent clinical experience across urgent and primary care.
  • Sound understanding of medico‑legal and ethical responsibilities in acute care (incl. prescribing and HDC).
  • Experience mentoring/coaching/teaching and in leadership/management.
Desirable
  • Post‑graduate study in health management and/or clinical teaching.
  • Experience across acute and community settings.
